The art of the title

Different films use title sequences in a variety of ways and forms in order to create some sort of effect on the target audience. Many title sequences contain similar themes and these themes can be applied to a selection of genres ranging from comedy and romance to thrillers and capers. Another example of a form of title sequence is the detail-oriented approach where the audience are introduced to themes through relevant close-up or overlapping imagery. This technique can clearly be seen in the film “Se7en”.

There are so many different forms of title sequences including graphic animation, nostalgic influence and photomontage to name just a few. Because of its short format and creative license — and sometimes because of their budgets — title sequence real estate is often used to explore elaborate, abstract worlds previously unknown or unseen.
